According to Dr Tjhin, adding that balanced nutrition in children can help to improve learning ability and the correct behavior.

Foods and drinks such as, biscuits, chocolate, milk and even in young children by their parents turned out to contain lots of added sugar in excess.

"Without realizing it can cause the blood of the glycemic index is high. It could endanger the health of children, as well as the causes of obesity, diabetes, and heart that accompany obesity and dental caries," said pediatrician Dr Conny Tandjung RS PIK SpA, in Jakarta.

World Health Organization has recommended that the added sugar intake does not exceed 10% of the total energy consumed, in order to avoid excess energy in the body of the child.

WHO also recommends that children aged 1-3 years, not recommended to consume more than 25 grams of added sugar / day (equivalent to five teaspoons). And children aged 4-6 years should not take more than 38 grams of added sugar / day (equivalent to 8 teaspoons).

To educate parents about the dangers of excess sugar in children, Hospital Pantai Indah Kapuk Anmum held in collaboration with parenting education program entitled Healthy Food for Healthy Kids in the hospital, as a series of activities of the National Children's Day 2012.

"The purpose of this parenting class is to provide healthy meals for child development," said Dr. Hadad Mansyur, Medical Marketing Manager Fontera Brans Indonesia at the same event. "Good nutrition for children is enough nutrients to meet daily nutritional source of the child," he said.

To meet the daily nutrient, he said, a child should eat a variety of food sources with the proper amount of intake. Nutrient-containing glycemic index (glycemic index / GI) and glycemic load (glycemic load / GL), will affect the pancreas and other organs due to pressure from high blood sugar.

If the amount of intake is not appropriate, he added, GI and high GL will make children can not concentrate well, experiencing rapid weight gain, as well as damage to the pancreas which would lead to disruption of insulin, and risk of type 2 diabetes as adults later.
